Free mobile software websites

1. GetJar.com

Via vehera.symbiandevelopersjournal.com.

GetJar.com is a good site to get free Java, Symbian, Palm or Pocket PC Softwares. And it provides device-specific RSS feeds, so you can monitor free software based on your phone model.

2. phonefreeware.com

J2ME Freeware
S60 Freeware
UIQ Freeware

3. midlet.org

This website is around for a long time.

4. midlet-review.com

It lists some free games

5. palmopensource.com

A great resource site for Palm OS. But it also has a list of open source projects for Pocket PC.

6. ngphone.com

My J2ME open source software list. Apparently I need to update it more often :)

A660: a new camcorder phone from Amoi

Amoi A660

This new camcorder phone from Amoi looks very good. It captures videos at a 352×288 resolution and shoots 1.3 Megapixel still images. It supports Java but I did not find any detailed specifications.

It looks like cloud to me. But the person who took this picture claimed it was a flying-dragon shape object. :)

Sony Ericsson with RSS support

We have a lot of different ways to get RSS feeds on Mobile Devices. Yahoo also has a Mobile RSS service. Now Sony Ericsson adds a pre-installed RSS reader for its latest phones like W600i.

Mobile Web use cases #2: information updates

To further address the issue of how to get users online, and their reluctance to browse the Web in the traditional meaning, we look at another major trend.

Push services are on the rise on the Internet, based on the de facto standard RSS. We believe that RSS has a great potential in mobile phones, as a technology to automatically provide updated content to users - accessing the Web without browsing.

Does that mean we will have a push-based RSS reader on W660i?
