XML, Data persistence, Network and more in Flash Lite and Java ME

If you know Java ME and want to learn some Flash Lite or vice versa, Felipe Andrade provides several great sample applications with source code.

He is also the guy behind Flyer, an open source Python framework for Flash Lite.

Mobile Ink from OpenNETCF

I blogged about OpenNETCF before. (That is more than 3.5 years ago, wow!) That leading open source project in Windows Mobile world is getting better and better. A recent addition is Mobile Ink.

The full list of projects are here.

Asterbox - a mobile Google Reader

Via Tommi Laukkanen, Asterbox offers a free Java application as Mobile Google Reader. I am an old fashion guy who is still using Bloglines, so I did not try the application myself. ;)

Nokia MOSH - mobilize and share

Nokia MOSH now is open to Forum Nokia community. The mobile site is http://mosh.nokia.mobi. It will be a good site to find mobile oriented contents, such as applications and ringtones. What’s missing is a rich mobile client (either Symbian or Java), so users can upload content, play/stream audio/video directly from handset. The download-and-play model is OK, but it won’t fly. Just imagine YouTube requires you download the full video before you view it. People would rather stream low quality video via Flash player.

Motorola MOTOMAGX Linux, MOTODEV Studio and RAZR2

Motorola just announces MOTOMAGX Mobile Linux Platform. It is not a breaking news, but I think Motorola reemphasizes its open source and mobile Linux strategy. There are 3 components in this platform:

(1) Java ME/MIDP 3.0
(2) WebUI - featuring web technology to enable widgets and Web 2.0 experiences
(3) Linux

RAZR2 V8 is also available now, as Motorola’s first Linux-based device in North America market.

I tried the MOTODEV Studio beta. It is based on Eclipse and EclipseME plugin. Motorola provides device emulator, integrated tools, device debugging and other features. It is a standalone installation. But as an Eclipse user, I would like Motorola provide this tool as Eclipse plugins, so I do not have to bother installing another Eclipse. Overall, it is a nice integrated tool for Java ME development.
