Yahoo Go 2.0 available for more handsets

Yahoo Go 2.0 (silently) supports more handsets. Finally my T-Mobile Dash is in the list. People use Flickr, Yahoo Email, Yahoo Search, Yahoo Map etc. might find this application very handy.

I always think Yahoo Go’s all-in-one strategy will be slow to market because so many features are packed in this application. But it might turn out OK. The handsets in market are much more powerful than 2 years ago. If you compare Yahoo Go with Microsoft Live Search for mobile and Google mobile applications (GMail and Google Maps for mobile). Yahoo Go definitely is the winner feature-wise.

Microsoft’s Open Source Web Site

Microsoft just launches an open source website:
http://www.microsoft.com/opensource

That is kind of interesting. I am also curious about a few website names. I know Channel 9, which happens to have some good mobile related content. Port 25 is the public portal for the Open Source Software Lab at Microsoft. Where are those numbers coming from? ;)

Palm OS JVM Updated

The new version is 5.7.2.

What Palm and IBM need to do is to preload this thing on device and improve it to make Java as first class citizen.

Never mind. Everyone knows Palm OS is going away :(

Mobile companies to watch: Rave Wireless and Mobile Campus

Those two companies have one thing in common: they both offer services on campus for college students.

11. Rave Wireless

Rave Wireless is the leading provider of mobile applications and managed mobile phone services that improve communication, build community, and enhance academics and safety, all while allowing colleges and universities to transition away from costly and obsolete landlines. Rave Wireless creates a truly tailored mobile phone experience for students by providing award-winning applications that are layered upon discounted handsets and plans available through Rave Wireless’s partnerships with top mobile carriers such as Sprint Nextel (NYSE:S) and AT&T (NYSE:T).

Rave Wireless also has a good blog about mobile learning and mobile campus life.

12. Mobile Campus

Mobile Campus connects university students to the people, information, content and offers that matter most to them while providing universities with real-time, interactive access to their students via text messaging.

Mobile Campus offers services to several campuses, including the University of Florida, where I got my master degree.

This entry is the continuation of mobile companies to watch: 1-10.
