Palm OS JVM Updated

The new version is 5.7.2.

What Palm and IBM need to do is to preload this thing on device and improve it to make Java as first class citizen.

Never mind. Everyone knows Palm OS is going away :(

Palm seems to be quite insistent that Palm OS is not going away. It’s moving to a Linux kernel, for sure, and the old Palm OS APIs may not be the primary SDK for targeting future smartphones from Palm, but that’s quite a bit different from saying they’re going away.

Palm’s job site says they are looking for Java engineers for “implementation of Java based mobile system software on new product development project.” If they really mean “system software” I suspect that Java is going to be not merely preloaded, but possibly a major piece of the new “Palm OS.”

Cool. I think Palm can work with Sun on Java FX Mobile since the kernel will be Linux.
